Most employment is considered “at will.” This is a legal concept that means you can leave your job at any time for any reason and your employer can terminate you at any time for any reason. Of course there are exceptions, for instance if you have a contract for a certain term or you are a member of a union. Additionally, an employer is prohibited from terminating you, or discriminating against you on the job, for reasons such as ethnicity, race, disability, gender, religion, and sexual orientation (partial list).
I have been successful in getting clients reinstated after termination, preventing their termination and negotiating monetary settlements after their terminations. I have won unemployment benefits for clients who were initially denied benefits based on their employers’ reports to the unemployment office.
